Experienced and Professional

I have been providing psychotherapy and counseling in the San Jose area to individuals, couples, groups, and families of all ethnicities, orientations, and walks of life for well over twenty years.

Since I understand how difficult it can be to find a good therapist and start therapy, this website is an attempt to give you a better idea of what to expect if you decide to work with me.

On the About page, you can find descriptions of my theoretical orientation, my philosophy about therapy, and a little about my professional history.

The Services page provides information about who I work with and how I structure the therapy.

In the Archives area I have included some essays and articles I have written, and a few links to other websites you may find interesting or helpful.

Please feel free to contact me either to set up an appointment or for more information.

A Special Note

Since we have all been dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic, mental health concerns have been compounded for people of all ages and walks of life. Anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and many other issues are at record highs. At the time of this writing (spring, 2021) many of the restrictions are being lifted, but it will still be quite awhile before we return to “normal”.

While I believe most of us are aware of the stressors we’ve been encountering, I don’t see nearly enough attention being paid to all the losses that we’ve experienced in these long months. Innumerable large and small losses, often overlooked, trivialized, or even dismissed entirely, have taken a huge toll on us as individuals and as a community, and we need to take some time to acknowledge this and grieve.

Even though I wrote these articles below over 10 years ago, I believe they are more pertinent than ever.

(Originally appeared in Sense and Psychotherapy, May 2010) For most of us, life can be pretty stressful, and at times it gets downright overwhelming. I have noticed over the years that one of the most common reasons people seek counseling or therapy is for ...
